What is the Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty involves the reduction of the outward appearance of the skin surrounding the vagina – the labia minora and labia majora. The procedure can also correct skin in the labia minora that is asymmetric. A number of risk factors may contribute to labia pathology including childbirth or simply genetics.

Many women mistaken the labiaplasty for the vaginoplasty. Whereas the vaginoplasty focuses on tightening the vagina, the labiaplasty only focuses on the labia majora and labia minora.

Patients who have excess skin and tissue in the labia minora or majora are good candidates for the labiaplasty. Excision of this excess tissue is carefully planned before and during the operation. In addition, Dr. D’Souza frequently uses liposuction to remove fatty tissue in the area of the Mons Pubis (the area of fat above the vagina) to restore a smooth contour.

The labiaplasty is performed in the outpatient operating room. The incision is hidden and incisions will be discussed in detail with you before starting the procedure. To safely provide you with the best results local anesthesia is used during the procedure. Overall the procedure can take anywhere from 1-2 hours.

The labiaplasty is a major procedure and requires moderate recovery time. We will discuss exercise and lifting restrictions at your pre-operative visit. Most people require approximately 1 week of recovery time before returning to their normal activities.

I highly recommend Iconic Plastic Surgery. I went in for a consultation and Dr. D'Souza explained everything in detail. I was a bit hesitant, but he was really comforting. Recovery was a lot better than I expected. The office staff was great as well and so friendly. They also have a aesthetician on at their location, so I might make another visit soon.
